Clinics & Services

Child Surveillance

Child surveillance sessions are organised by the Health Visitors, some in conjunction with the doctors, to check on the development of young children up to the age of 5. Appointments are sent out inviting parents to attend the surgery for check-ups. On some occasions the health visitors may arrange to visit families at home. Click here for more information on child health.

NHS Hearing Clinic

A dedicated hearing clinic (Scrivens) will be at the surgery for all patients over 55 with a hearing loss. This service will give patients more choice for their hearing care. If you are concerned about your hearing, then please book an appointment with either the practice nurse or the GP who will discuss your concerns in more detail and check that there is no other condition, such as excessive wax that may be affecting your hearing. Following this appointment, they may refer you to a Hearing Clinic for a full hearing assessment or you can refer yourself by booking an appointment at the surgery with Scrivens.

Minor Surgery

Skin surgery is undertaken in the treatment room at the surgery, usually on a Tuesday morning by Dr. Bathgate. Any patients who feel they may benefit from this service are asked to make an appointment with Dr. Bathgate to enable appropriate arrangements to be made.

Maternity Services

Ante natal care is supervised by midwives based at the Darley Birthing Centre attached to the Whitworth hospital this is also where most of the routine appointments take place. Patients who find they are pregnant should contact the surgery reception to enable them to give out the telephone number for the midwives. The midwives will then arrange an appointment. Dating, and other scans, are arranged at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. The midwives will discuss the options available for delivery of the baby, and also arrange appropriate post natal care at home.

Family Planning

All of the doctors, and most of the nurses, are able to offer advice on a variety of contraceptive measures. These are dealt with during normal surgery appointments. We also have the Sexual health team available  at the surgery every first Friday of the month. To book you will need to call 0800 328 3383

Chronic Disease Management

The practice operates recall systems to ensure that patients with on going medical conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, or asthma are offered regular supervision. The check ups for these conditions are undertaken in regular surgery appointments by the doctors and some of the practice nurses. Many of the checks require blood tests to be taken by the health care assistants about two weeks prior to the review appointment.

Whitworth Hospital

All of the partners hold clinical assistant posts at Whitworth hospital, the local community hospital for the Matlock area. This means that they are involved in supervising the medical care of patients from the practice and elsewhere during their admission to Whitworth. Patients can also be referred to Whitworth as outpatients for physiotherapy or to have routine X-rays performed. A minor injuries unit is also situated at Whitworth which patients can attend for help with relatively straightforward injuries.
